China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) has won the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the Poiga 2 Hydropower Station project in Indonesia. The contract was awarded on January 13 and strengthens the company’s presence in the Indonesian hydropower market.
The Poiga 2 Hydropower Station is located in South Minahasa Regency in North Sulawesi Province. The project will have a total installed capacity of 30MW, consisting of two 15MW hydroelectric generating units. The project scope includes the construction of a water diversion tunnel, semi-buried steel penstocks, a switchyard, transmission lines and associated civil and electromechanical works. CGGC will be responsible for design, equipment procurement, construction, installation and commissioning.
Once completed, the hydropower plant is expected to increase clean energy supply in North Sulawesi and support Indonesia’s renewable energy development goals. The project is designed to improve regional electricity reliability while contributing to the country’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and diversify its power generation mix.
The Poiga 2 project adds to CGGC’s international hydropower portfolio and reflects the company’s continued expansion in overseas infrastructure and renewable energy markets. Indonesia remains a key market for hydropower development due to its strong water resource potential and growing electricity demand.
Following the contract award, CGGC is expected to begin detailed engineering work and site preparation. Construction activities will proceed in phases, with commissioning scheduled after the completion of major civil works and equipment installation.
