Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of SJVN, along with Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), visited the 900MW Arun-3 hydroelectric project (HEP) in Nepal to review the status of construction and assess progress across key components of the project.
During the recent visit, the SJVN leadership inspected major project sites, including the dam site at Phaksinda, where the CMD reviewed construction activities and emphasised the need to maintain strict standards of safety, quality, and adherence to timelines. He highlighted the importance of Arun-3 as a major cross-border hydropower project contributing to regional clean energy cooperation between India and Nepal.
The delegation also visited the powerhouse and associated infrastructure at Pukhuwa. Project officials provided detailed briefings on recent progress, operational challenges arising from difficult terrain and weather conditions, and mitigation measures being implemented to keep construction on track. The CMD acknowledged the efforts of the project workforce operating under demanding Himalayan conditions and stressed the need to sustain momentum to meet upcoming milestones.
Reiterating the strategic importance of Arun-3, Shri Gupta stated that the project, once commissioned, will make a significant contribution to the energy security and economic development of both countries. The project will add 900MW of renewable capacity, supporting long-term power requirements and environmentally sustainable growth in the region.
Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), commended the dedication of the project team and emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards of safety, discipline, and teamwork throughout the construction phase. He encouraged continued focus on timely execution despite geographical and climatic challenges.
The 900MW Arun-3 hydroelectric project is being developed in Nepal’s Sankhuwasabha District by SJVN through its wholly owned subsidiary, SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd. (SAPDC). The project is a key element of India–Nepal energy cooperation and is expected to play an important role in enhancing regional energy security and supporting economic development through sustainable hydropower generation in the Arun River Basin.
