GOPA-International Energy Consultants from Germany, in association with ZolletIngegneria (a joint venture partner from Italy), have been procured by the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) as the owner’s engineer for the 5.5MW Nyagak III hydropower project on the River Nyagak in the Zombo District of Uganda.
Nyagak III is to be developed as a public-private partnership by a special purpose vehicle (SPV) (GenmaxNyagak Limited) formed between UEGCL and the procured private sector partner, a consortium of Hydromax Limited and Dott Services Limited. The role of the owner’s engineer will be to carry out construction supervision of the project to ensure adherence to the work plan, budget, quality standards and health, safety and environment standards by the SPV implementing the project.
The project has gained support from the Federal Republic of Germany through KfW Development and the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.
