“This work is essential to ensure that these power plants operate safely and efficiently,” said USBR Commissioner Bob Johnson. “Chandler and Roza play an important role in pumping irrigation water to thousands of acres in the Yakima Project area.”
The contract calls for the removal of the existing voltage regulators and excitation systems and the installation of new voltage regulators as well as other equipment upgrades.
Chandler power plant, constructed in 1956, is located about 16.9km northeast of Prosser, Washington. Roza, completed in 1958, is about 4.8km northeast of Yakima. Electricity generated by the power plants is marketed by the Bonneville Power Administration.
