Eco Wave Power Global AB has reached a major milestone in its first Portuguese project by paying half of the grid connection fee for its planned 1MW wave energy power station in Porto. The payment, made to national grid operator E-REDES, signals the company’s formal acceptance of the technical conditions needed to connect to Portugal’s public electricity grid.

With a provisional grid connection date set for 2026, the project is on track as the first phase of a larger 20MW concession in partnership with local port authorities. Recent upgrades at the site, known as “The Gallery,” are preparing the facility for both wave energy equipment and future public access as an underwater museum and education centre.

Eco Wave Power’s CEO, Inna Braverman, says the milestone marks a turning point for wave energy in Portugal, aligning with the country’s ambitious renewable energy targets.
