ENGIE has launched ENERMAP, a free online platform aimed at helping local authorities and citizens in France assess renewable energy development opportunities, including hydropower, in their regions.
The website enables users to identify potential for hydroelectricity alongside wind, solar, battery storage, biogas, and heating and cooling networks. The tool is intended to provide accessible data to inform planning and decision-making at the territorial level.
ENERMAP aggregates data from more than 25 public databases, including GlobalWindAtlas, IGN, Météo-France, RTE and INRAE. According to ENGIE, it presents an educational and neutral overview of development potential across energy sources. Users can compare local energy consumption with production levels, evaluate climate vulnerability, examine adaptation measures such as urban greening, identify urban heat islands, and access documentation on project development, including regulatory, technical and financing aspects.
The platform also provides information on potential tax benefits for territories linked to project operation.
Julia Maris, Deputy Managing Director in charge of the Group’s General Secretariat, said: ” To be understood and accepted, the energy transition must also be considered at the local level. Elected officials know the specific characteristics of their territory better than anyone else and are best placed to imagine the most appropriate solutions. Simple and reliable, Enermap will help inform their thinking and support their decisions .”
ENGIE stated that the platform is available free of charge and is designed to support local engagement with energy transition planning.
