Power Machines has announced it has manufactured and completed the shipment of generating equipment for unit No. 6 of the Cheboksarskaya hydropower plant, with unit No. 4 at the project set to be commissioned this month.
The new delivery set included the stator and tachogenerator of the hydrogenator for Unit no 6, as well as spare parts.
Power Machines completed installation supervision related to the generator update at hydropower unit No. 4 in late September, with the turbine reconstructed earlier. A distinctive feature of this update is the increased reliability of the generator air coolers, due to the replacement of cupronickel with stainless steel in the material of covers and tube walls. This design made it possible to increase resistance to corrosion and reduce the fouling caused by zebra mussel, a common type of bivalve molluscs that live in fresh and brackish waters.
Hydropower unit No. 11 at the plant was commissioned last year, the eighth in a line, where a new generator stator was installed. It features a near-perfect geometry providing a uniform air gap between the stator and rotor, which improves the unit performance and reduces vibration.
The modernization of the Cheboksarskaya hydropower plant is aimed at improving the safety and reliability of the plant's equipment, reducing repair and operating costs.
