According to the Vietnamese News Agency, each of the 1200MW plants will cost US$700-800M, with construction of the first plant to start in 2018. EVN will formally submit its proposal for when and where it intends to build the pumped storage plants to the government by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese and Lao officials meeting in Hanoi in mid-June agreed to co-operate in developing hydroelectricity capacity in the two countries. Lao officials suggested that Vietnam train Lao engineers and industry managers in the hydroelectricity sector.
