The first section of tunnel lining has been poured at the Tantagara site as part of the Snowy 2.0 pumped storage hydro project in Australia.
The milestone marks the completion of 10m of a 50m transition tunnel. This tunnel will connect the water intake diffuser and gate shaft to the 17km headrace tunnel, which delivers water to the Snowy 2.0 power station turbines.
The concrete pour was carried out by Future Generation Joint Venture, which includes Clough, Webuild, and Whittens. The work required 566.5 square metres of formwork, 108 tonnes of steel reinforcement, and 800 cubic metres of concrete. The base, walls, and crown were poured in stages over nearly 45 hours.
The tunnel’s travelling formwork system was completed in May.
