Fortum has signed a five-year agreement to supply electricity and Guarantees of Origin from local hydropower plants to Swedish digital infrastructure company EcoDataCenter’s data centre in Falun, Sweden.

Under the agreement, Fortum will provide 10MW of capacity from its hydropower assets along the Dalälven river. The contract began in January 2026 and runs until the end of 2030. Fortum will also provide physical electricity supply and balance responsibility for EcoDataCenter’s operations at the site.

The Falun facility hosts advanced computing capacity being established by CoreWeave, which describes itself as the Essential Cloud for AI™.

The agreement links part of EcoDataCenter’s electricity demand directly to hydropower production in the local area. Fortum owns, co-owns and operates 39 hydropower plants along the Dalälven river, while the Falun site is EcoDataCenter’s first operational facility.

“Our strong roots in Dalarna and close collaboration with local power producers are key to growth – both for us and for the industry as a whole,” commented Peter Michelson, CEO of EcoDataCenter. “The agreement with Fortum, which supplies our facility in Falun with power directly from the Dalälven river, is a good example of this. When data centers and energy companies plan together, natural solutions emerge that create new opportunities for the entire region,.”.

Fortum said the agreement aligns with its strategy of supplying low-carbon electricity to industrial customers and supporting decarbonisation across the Nordic region. The company sees opportunities to expand its role in supplying electricity to data centres as demand grows.

“Data centers are an important and expanding industry in Sweden, and we at Fortum see great potential in this segment. This is an important first step in Sweden in a deliberate focus on this sector going forward. Being able to begin this journey in Dalarna, where we have such a strong local presence through our hydropower, is especially rewarding,” said Simon-Erik Ollus, Executive Vice President for Corporate Customers and Markets at Fortum.
