According to the Interfax news agency, the 34 plants – including three medium size projects – will have a combined production capacity of 511MW.
The three medium-sized plant will be built on the Rioni river in western Georgia. These projects are the 250MW Namakhvani plant, and the 110MW Tvishi and Zhoneti plants. The remaining small plants will be built on the Bahvistskali, Chelta, Nekskra and Khrami rivers.
The Energy Ministry will call for bids to build the plants within the near future. Gruzgidroproyekt has already drawn up design plans for the plants, but investors will be able to make amendments to these.
