Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) has secured a ₹524.17 crore (approximately US$54.9m) contract from NHPC Limited for rehabilitation works at the Salal hydropower station in Jammu & Kashmir, India.
The 27-month contract covers civil and hydro-mechanical works, together with associated ancillary and enabling works, required to make the undersluices of the station’s concrete dam fully functional and operational.
According to HCC, rehabilitation of the undersluices is expected to improve sediment management and the operational efficiency of the dam, while supporting its long-term safety and reliability.
The contract also marks HCC’s return to a project it helped construct. The company was involved in building the 690MW Salal Hydroelectric Project, which was commissioned in 1987.
HCC has worked on several other hydropower developments in Jammu & Kashmir, including the 240MW Uri-II, 333MW Kishanganga, 45MW Nimoo Bazgo and 44MW Chutak projects.
The company said these projects, together with Salal, represent a combined installed capacity of 1,352MW, equivalent to approximately 38% of Jammu & Kashmir’s installed hydropower capacity.
HCC has also undertaken transport infrastructure projects in the region, including construction of the Anji Khad cable-stayed railway bridge and nearly 32km of tunnels for the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link.
