Hidroelectrica has awarded a €97.5 million contract to refurbish the Stejaru hydropower plant on the Bistrița River in Romania. The project covers the refurbishment of four hydro-aggregates (HA1–HA4) and plant installations, with a completion period of 66 months.
The Stejaru hydropower plant, located downstream of the Izvorul Muntelui storage, has an installed capacity of 210MW and an average project energy of 434. GWh per year. The plant is equipped with two type G II hydro-generators of 60.14 MVA each and four type G I hydro-generators of 29.92 MVA each.
The procurement process was initiated through open tender, with an estimated value of €97,488,599.05 excluding VAT. The awarded value is €97,486,604.81 excluding VAT.
The sole tenderer was Societatea de Servicii Hidroenergetice Hidroserv SA, with subcontractors Electromontataj Carpați S.A., Uzina de Construcții Mașini Hidroenergetice, General Design Tech S.R.L., Compania de Consultanță în Energie și Mediu S.A., Hydro Proiect Invest S.R.L., Electromontaj S.A., Nibaco S.R.L. and ICPE Actel S.A.
According to Hidroelectrica: “The purpose of the investment is to complete the works for the refurbishment of type I (HA1÷4) hydro-aggregates in the power plant and the general installations of the power plant, to carry out the commissioning acceptance, to amortize the invested funds and to secure the installations of the Dimitrie Leonida – Stejaru hydroelectric power plant.”
The company said the project’s objectives include increasing productivity and operational safety by upgrading technical parameters, minimizing downtime, implementing remote control and monitoring systems, reducing operating risks, and ensuring environmental protection in line with current legislation.
The refurbishment is expected to deliver higher efficiency of type I hydro-aggregates, greater operational safety and reliability, increased system services for the national power grid, reduced downtime, and lower maintenance costs.
Hidroelectrica stated that the investment “reaffirms its commitment to modernizing its production infrastructure in line with the national strategy of transition to a green and sustainable economy.”
Hidroelectrica is Romania’s largest producer of green energy. It operates 188 hydropower plants with a total installed capacity of 6.4GW and owns the 108MW Crucea wind farm.
