The Hydropower Foundation has entered into a strategic alignment with the National Hydropower Association (NHA) to strengthen workforce development efforts across the hydropower sector.

Under the arrangement, the Hydropower Foundation will remain an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organisation with its own mission, vision, board, and staff. The collaboration is intended to increase the Foundation’s reach and effectiveness by connecting more directly with industry partners through NHA’s network.

As part of the alignment, Malcolm Woolf now serves as Executive Director of the Hydropower Foundation, in addition to his current role as President and CEO of NHA. In this dual role, Woolf is expected to help coordinate activities and enhance collaboration between the two organizations.

The Hydropower Foundation will continue to focus on four main priorities:

  • Conducting outreach to universities, community colleges, and trade schools to provide resources, host site visits, and share internship and job opportunities.
  • Leveraging social media to reach students and raise awareness of hydropower as a career path.
  • Hosting Clean Energy Career Expos and increasing participation from students and industry.
  • Planning for sustainability to ensure the long-term success of its programs and the organization.

“This effort will only succeed through collaboration with partners across our industry — and we invite you to join us,” Woolf said. “You can support our mission by volunteering your time and expertise to engage students by filling out a brief form or by contributing financially.“
