A recent workshop began exploring how the private sector efforts in clean energy can be scaled up, especially in areas where Norway has significant experience, such as hydropower. The energy meeting was part of the annual consultations between the Norwegian government and the World Bank Group, which includes IFC.
The IFC already provides financial support to a number of private sector initiatives involving Norwegian firms, such as SN Power’s activities in the Philippines and Chile. Norway is also a major donor to IFC to loan funds.
In a statement, IFC chief executive, Lars Thunell, said “Norwegian technical expertise has helped develop our portfolio of infrastructure investments and carbon finance transactions”.
The recent clean energy workshop was organised by the Royal Norwegian Embassy, the Norwegian development agency (Norad), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
