The project, worth approximately EUR 345M, involves the construction of a 190m high, 300m long dam and an underground power station that will house three turbines totalling 820MW of installed power.

Impregilo is already carrying out preliminary work for the dam, which involves the building of two diversion tunnels 870m in length and 11m in diameter and the system of access tunnels and roads to the underground power station, worth a further EUR 55M euro.

The tender was awarded by Isagen, a mixed public/private concession holder active in power generation in Columbia.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) has approved a US$140M loan for Isagen to cofinance construction of project, which will be one of the five largest power generating plants in the country upon its completion in 2014.
