Ingeteam has been awarded an equipment supply contract for the rehabilitation of the Sallente pumped storage hydropower plant in La Torre de Capdella, Spain.
The company will supply a new Indar stator for Unit 3’s motor-generator, which is rated at 125 MVA, 500 rpm and 15.5 kV. The contract also covers a starting system for the units in pumping mode, including medium-voltage equipment and protection and control systems.
The new starting system will support regenerative braking and can operate as a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), providing reactive power support to help regulate grid voltage.
Owned by Endesa Generación, the underground cavern plant houses four vertical synchronous units, each rated at 125 MVA. It operates with a maximum gross head of 400.7 m between the Estany Gento and Sallente reservoirs.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Ingeteam had secured a major contract with Norsk Hydro to supply key technology for Norway’s Illvatn Pumped Storage Project
