Karcham Wangtoo is located on the Satluj River, and features an 88m high dam and underground powerhouse. The project is one of the largest hydro schemes to be registered for the CDM.

The 1000MW Karcham Wangtoo hydroelectric project in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh has been registered by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) benefits, developer Jaiprakash Power Venture Ltd (JPVL) has announced.
