Lahmeyer International is preparing a feasibility study for the Thakot hydropower project in Pakistan in association with local partners. The project on the Indus River will have an installed capacity between 2000-2500MW.

Pakistan’s Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA) awarded the contract to Lahmeyer who has been involved in the planning and supervision of some of the country’s most challenging hydropower projects to date.

Lahmeyer and WAPDA’s collaboration has lasted for more than 30 years and Lahmeyer is presently working on the development of the Indus Hydropower Cascade. With the new contract, the German subsidiary of Tractebel Engineering is now involved in three out of five greenfield projects currently being planned: Diamer-Basha (4500MW), Patan (2400MW), and now Thakot.
