Lane, the US subsidiary of Webuild Group, has completed the Kansas City Levees Flood Risk Management Project for the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
The works improve flood protection for more than 27,000 residents, 2,700 businesses and structures, and nearly US$10bn in property and infrastructure. The protected area includes industrial and commercial districts and a major freight rail hub.
Construction covered more than 16 miles (25km) of levees and floodwalls in Argentine, Armourdale and the Central Industrial District, along the Kansas and Missouri rivers.
The scope included more than one million cubic yards (760,000 cubic metres) of earthworks, 25,000ft (7.6km) of new concrete floodwalls, 120 relief wells, replacement of 12 railroad closure structures, and modifications to 175 existing utilities. Existing infrastructure remained operational throughout the works.
The Kansas City flood protection project began in July 2021 and required coordination between federal agencies, local governments and railroad operators. Webuild said the project was recognised by USACE for its efficiency and delivery.
