Multiconsult has been awarded a contract by Å Energi to design the rehabilitation of the dams at Kvernevatn in Åseral municipality, Agder county, Norway. The project aims to improve dam safety and ensure the facility is resilient to future climate and weather conditions.

The scope includes rehabilitation of the main Kvernevatn dam, which is classified in Norway’s highest consequence category. This classification places strict requirements on technical solutions, safety standards, environmental management, and coordination across multiple engineering disciplines.

Multiconsult will be responsible for design work throughout all project phases, including preliminary design, detailed design, preparation of tender documents, and technical support during construction. The project will be delivered as a fully digital, model-based assignment without traditional drawings.

Work initially stated in autumn 2025. Tender documentation is expected to be completed in 2026, followed by the construction phase.

According to Multiconsult, the project reflects a broader need for dam rehabilitation across Norway as aging hydropower infrastructure is adapted to updated safety requirements and changing climate conditions. The assignment will combine local project knowledge with national expertise in dam engineering.
