According to newswire reports, Energy Undersecretary Jay Layug said that 40 to 80 contracts are to be awarded, mostly for hydropower, although some will be for wind and solar projects.

The contracts are for projects which are in the pre-feasibility stage, with further studies needed before the projects can be implemented.

The Philippines has a potential hydropower capacity of 281.97MW, according to DOE estimates. There are 17 hydropower schemes currently operating in the country.
