21 December 2005

The tentative cost of the project has been approved at US$1.5B, as opposed to US$1.6B for only 600MW as was earlier estimated.

J&K’s Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, has worked out the estimated cost per MW as US$1.3M. Per unit cost is to be 4.5 US cents – the cheapest power generation cost in the state so far.

The Cabinet approved implementation of the project through a consortium comprising M/S SPAS of Norway, M/S Ozaltin of Turkey and M/S HCC of India.
