Alstom is to provide electromechanical equipment and technical services to the largest hydropower plant in Uganda in a €58 million deal awarded by Chinese firm Sinohydro.
Under the terms of the deal, Alstom will provide six 100MW Francis turbine-generator sets and related equipment for the Karuma project, with Alstom Hydro China (AHC) responsible for the equipment design, manufacturing, supervision to the installation, commissioning, testing and site services.
Located along River Nile in the districts of Kiryadongo and Oyam, the 600MW Karuma plant will provide 40% of power supply for Uganda once complete.

This is Alstom's third contract awarded by Sinohydro after successful cooperation in the Bui hydropower project in Ghana and Soubre project in Côte d'lvoire.
