alstom has been selected by the Zambian utility ZESCO to rehabilitate the Victoria Falls power station. The contract is worth US$39 M.
The plant, owned and operated by ZESCO, is situated on the Zambezi river, close to Livingstone and within the UNESCO World Heritage site. It has three stations. Station A, is an outdoor type with four 2MW units. Station B is an underground type with six 10MW units; and Station C is an outdoor type with four units of 10MW each.
Alstom will provide both equipment and services for the turnkey rehabilitation of all three stations and the associated high-voltage switchyard. The equipment, including turbines, generators and electrical balance of plant will be supplied from the company's facilities in France and Spain.
Station A will be converted into a working public museum. The conversion is also part of Alstom's contract.
