AMP kicks off Ohio river developments at Cannelton

7 August 2009

Works at the 84MW plant at Cannelton dam, in Kentucky, are due to be followed at four similar existing structures on the river. The plant is to be operational by 2013.

In total, the plants will add more than 350MW of installed capacity to the company’s asset base, the company said.

The next plants to commence construction will be at Captain Anthony Meldahl and Smithland Locks and Dam. Other plants in the scheme are RC Byrd and Willow Island.

MWH has carried out work on the scheme, and Voith Hydro will be supplying equipment to the majority of the scheme.

AMP is also working with the TriCities Power Authority on a feasibility study for a plant at Bluestone dam, on New river in West Virginia.

A couple of months ago AMP became the re-branded name of American Municipal Power-Ohio (AMP-Ohio). The change was made as the expanding company has assets in six states, not just Ohio.

Voith Hydro is the recently rebranded name for the long-standing joint venture between Voith and Siemens.
