Andritz is to supply the complete electro-mechanical equipment for the 624MW Kiru run-of-river hydropower plant on the Chenab River in Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The contract, valued at over €50 million, was awarded by Indian utility company Chenab Valley Power Projects.

Under the deal Andritz will supply, design, manufacture, erect, test and commission four units (turbines and generators), auxiliary electrical and mechanical equipment as well as 400kV GIS and 400kV outdoor pothead yard equipment.

The contract will be executed by Andritz’s Indian subsidiary with state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Mandideep (near Bhopal) and Prithla (near Faridabad).

The Kiru hydropower plant addresses the energy deficiency in the northern part of India. It will bring clean renewable energy to the rural area and also enable industrial development in the region.
