In Austria, the first contract for the 480MW Limberg power plant comprises the design, fabrication, transport and installation of the steel tunnel linings of the pressure shaft, including the high head manifold.
The second contract includes the design, manufacturing, transport, installation and commissioning of two motor generators, excitation systems as well as a static frequency converter for startup in pump operation.
Limberg II, the largest project being implemented in Austria at present, is an extension of the existing Kaprun pumped storage facility and, with its 2 x 240MW, will more than double the installed capacity. Commissioning of the first unit is scheduled for the autumn of 2011 and the commercial operation of the plant for March 2012.
The company has also been awarded an order to modernise Pena Larga hydro power station, located in the Andes region of Venezuela.
Major supplies are two new Francis turbine runners, which will replace the existing 20MW turbines installed in 1986. All automation and control equipment, as well as the turbine governors, is due to be replaced.
This rehabilitation project is executed jointly by the VA Tech Hydro locations in Austria, Switzerland, Mexico and Colombia.
