BBA and Lombardi have announced the creation of strategic alliance that will see the firms collaborate on pumped storage hydropower projects for Canadian clients, while also laying the groundwork for international growth.

No new pumped storage hydropower plants have been built in North America in more than four decades, but there is a significant resurgence of interest in this type of technology.

"Pumped-storage hydropower is a proven technology that needs to be part of Canada's energy mix if we truly want to decarbonise our economy," said François Vitez, Director of Renewable Energy at BBA.

The BBA-Lombardi alliance said it has already gained the interest of several stakeholders in the field.

Swiss company Lombardi is currently working on the Snowy 2.0 project in Australia, which will have an installed capacity of 2000MW on completion.
