Black and Veatch to refurbish pumped storage plants

Black and Veatch of the US is providing engineering services to the US Army Corps of Engineers to rehabilitate two pumped storage hydro power plants in Georgia.

The 500MW Carters pump-ed storage facility is located in the northwest of the state.

It is more than 20 years old and requires major repairs and upgrading. black-veatch will provide technical support until the project is completed in 2002. For the Richard B Russell 650MW plant in east-central Georgia, Black and Veatch is designing a modern technology static frequency convertor system and associated power equipment to permit soft start up of the generators.
