Borcka plant inaugurated

The 300MW plant, equipped with two Francis turbines supplied by Voith Siemens Hydro, has been built by national utility DSI State Hydraulic Works.

Borcka has been realized under a bilateral agreement beween Austria and Turkey. It will be the penultimate power plant in the Coruh basin northeastern of the Black Sea, built by DSI. The consortium working on the project consisted of Andritz VA Tech Hydro, Verbundplan (PÖYRY), Strabag, Voith Siemens Hydro Austria and local Turkish partners.

During the inauguration ceremony the Prime Minister stated that hydro power is Turkey's most important energy resource. 'Today, its share is 36% of the Turkish energy mix. If the necessary measures are not taken immediately, energy shortage could be a trouble for all of us. Therefore, we are taking precautions rapidly', he emphasised. He also affirmed to further support hydro power generation.
