Brazil to supply turbines for Three Gorges

The 18,000MW Three Gorges project in China will be using turbines produced in Sao Paulo, Brazil by voith-siemens do Brasil and Alstom. Voith Siemens is responsible for the supply of six units which will be shipped to China by August 2001 and is estimated to cost around US$50M.

Alstom is responsible for supplying a further eight turbines, six of which will come from Alstom Energia do Brasil and two from the French alstom-hydro. This contract is worth around US$221M.

Besides the supply of turbines, Voith Siemens and Alstom will also be involved in technology transfer for the production of components in China.
