•ABB alstom Power is planning to develop a European Works Council. The announcement was made during a meeting held in Brussels where ABB Alstom Power’s president and chief executive officer, Claude Darmon, discussed global development plans, including restructuring of employee representatives from 16 countries.

•Weil, Gotshal & Manges, an international law firm, has announced that Bruce Johnston has taken up the position as partner and head of project finance, with a team of thirty lawyers worldwide.

• HydroQual of the US and WL/Delft Hydraulics of Holland, have signed a co-operative agreement to foster close collaboration in research and development, and in specialised consulting services in water resources and mathematical modelling.

•The continuing expansion within the MJ Gleeson Group of construction and civil engineering companies has led to the appointment of four new directors in its engineering division — Tony Eaton, Richard Higgs, Mike Lawden and Mike Robinson.

•Stahlbau Plauen is expanding its business activities to position itself as a supplier for hydraulic steel construction projects. The subsidiary of the plant contracting company Lurgi, intends to be active not only in the construction of industrial and power plants, structural engineering and bridges, but also in hydraulic steel constructions.

•UK-based BSP International Foundations, a designer and manufacturer of foundation engineering equipment, has appointed Sohad Establish- ment in Kuwait City as its sales and servicing dealer for Kuwait, Quatar, Oman and the Yemen.

•Derek Pollock, chairman of the Halcrow Group, has announced his new senior management team. The board members are: Derek Pollock, Tony Allum, Douglas Kennedy, Peter Gammie, Les Buck, Chris Flemming, Neil Holt, David Kerr and Michael Angus.
