Construction starts on small hydro in the Philippines

Initial construction work has started on two new hydropower plants with a combined capacity of almost 3MW in Real, Quezon, the Philippines.

According to local media reports, a consortium of Pure Energy Holdings Corp. subsidiaries Blue Energy Holdings and Management Corp. and Repower Energy Development Corp. (REDC) together with Giga United Power and Willy N. Ocier, have begun work on access roads for the Lower Labayat and Upper Tignoan projects, with site construction expected to start next month.

The 1.4MW Lower Labayat project will share transmission lines and access roads with the existing Labayat 1 project, operated by REDC. The 1.5MW Upper Tignoan plant will connect to a REDC Switchyard.
