Contract award for Kukule Ganga

Ceylon Electricity Board has awarded Noell Stahl und Maschinenbau of Germany the contract for hydromechanical works at the Kukule Ganga hydro power project in Sri Lanka. The US$7.2M contract mainly comprises the design, manufacture, erection and commissioning of four radial gates (12mx10m each, one with an extension flap); various wheels and sliding gates; stoplogs, a 3.9m diameter penstock; trashracks and one trashrack cleaning machine. All of the appurtenant electrical and mechanical equipment will also be supplied for this 144MW project.

The scheme is being financed by the Japan Bank for International Co-operation (formerly OECF). The project engineer is a joint venture between Nippon Koei Com-pany, electrowatt Engineering and lahmeyer International.
