Construction of the 24MW generation set involves supply and installation of a 6.1m diameter bulb turbine and generator. The entire housing of the set will be submerged in the river at the weir power station, and take the total installed capacity at the site to 100MW.
The new plant is to be commissioned and brought online in 2009. Work on the site has also included rehabilitation of the weir and will require installation of a fish passage.
The Albbruck-Dogern is three quarters owned by power utility RWE. The E&M contractor is a subsidiary of Austria-based Andritz VA Tech Hydro.
