Fatalities as landslide hits Chinese hydro plant

9 May 2016

At least 31 people have died with several others missing as a landslide buried offices at the construction site of a hydropower plant in the Chinese province of Fujian yesterday.

Newswires have reported that torrential rain bought tons of mud and rock down onto outbuildings at the site of the Chitan hydropower station in Taining County.

Rescue work at the site was being hampered by continuing downpours, although it was reported that two workers had been pulled out alive this morning. Further efforts to find those missing are continuing.
