First refurbed unit back in operation at Finnish hydro plant

4 January 2018

Power Machines has confirmed that hydraulic power unit No 1 has been put into operation at Tainionkoski hydropower plant in Finland after extensive modernization.

Power Machines and its Finnish partner Energico Oy signed a contract with project owner Fortum Power and Heat Oy (Finland) back in January 2015 that covered the modernization of two generators with a capacity of 14.4MW each.

The scope of Power Machines' obligations includes the manufacture and delivery of two sets of equipment, each of which includes: a hydrogenerator stator, an oil vapor extraction system, mounting tools, and spare parts. Power Machines’ specialists will also render supervised installation services.

The start of the second refurbished hydraulic unit is scheduled for September 2018. Once fully complete, the life of the project is expected to be extended by 50 years.
