GE gets final acceptance for Vietnam plant

27 August 2002

The 70MW Song Hinh station in the southern province of Phu Yen began operation in the second quarter of 2000 and was transferred to customer Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) in June 2001.

The plant has two 35.5MW Francis turbines with a 242m head, supplied by ge-hydro. It supplies electricity to some 250,000 households and provides local irrigation, while also supporting fish breeding programmes.

GE Hydro was part of a consortium for Song Hinh, with alstom Power Vasteras of Sweden, which provided generators and other electrical equipment.

The plant is the first hydro project in Vietnam not to use Russian technology and equipment.
