GE Hydro awarded Hydro-Québec contract

7 October 2002

Located on the Outaouais river in the Abitibi Témiscamingue region of Québec, the Rapide-2 and Rapide-7 generating stations will each replace four generators with generating units from GE. This is the first phase of Hydro-Quebec's plan to completely modernise these plants and maximise their output. The generator upgrade will increase the generating capacity of the run-of-river facilities from 48MW to 60MW.

The majority of the equipment for the project will be manufactured at GE's Lachine, Québec facility. The units will be shipped at the rate of one per year to each of the sites beginning in April 2003 and concluding in 2006.
