Under the US$47.8M contract, the equipment will be installed at the new Usina Hidrelétrica Campos Novos facility along the Canoas river.

Scheduled to enter service in 2006, the plant will provide power for the wholesale power market in Brazil.

In addition to three vertical Francis hydraulic turbines with 311MVA vertical generators, ge-hydro is supplying a 230kV station, penstock, hydromechanical equipment, overhead and gantry cranes, step-up transformers, electrical auxiliaries, a digital control and supervision system, relay protection, telecommunications and spillway observation systems. Engineering and design, purchasing, fabrication, transportation, erection supervision and commissioning supervision are also included in the contract.

GE Hydro Inepar, based in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, is manufacturing the equipment at two locations in Brazil, São Paulo and Curitiba. Shipment of the equipment began in August 2002 and will extend through November 2005.

Unit 1 will begin commercial operation in January of 2006 with units 2 and 3 to follow in April and July of 2006, respectively.

Construções e Comércio Camargo Corrêa of São Paulo is the consortium leader for the project. Engevix Engenharia of Flórianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil, is conducting the civil engineering and design of the power plant except for the intake and spillway, which will be provided by CNEC Engenharia of São Paulo.
