Govt cancels METEC’s contract on Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam

27 August 2018

The Ethiopian Government has cancelled Metals and Engineering Corporation’s (METEC) contract for work on the 6450MW Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), citing delays in completing the project.

METEC, which is state run, was responsible for the supply and installation of the hydraulic and electromechnical components of the hydroelectric project. Newswires have reported that the government will now award the contract to another firm.

Salini Impregilo remains the main contractor on the scheme, responsible for the civil works. METEC’s cancellation has no bearing on Salini’s contract.
