Hydro helps power Beijing Winter Olympics

31 March 2022

China Three Gorges Corporation announced that its four cascade stations along the Yangtze River generated a record-breaking total of 10.45 billion kWh electricity in February, effectively ensuring the power supply for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

The electricity generated by Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges and Gezhouba, four cascade stations operated by China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd. (CYPC), CTG’s listed arm, was 1.2 billion kWh more than the same period a year earlier.

Since mid-February, the cascade stations have put seven more generators into operation, and had up to 82 units running at peak times, with a maximum output of 35 million kilowatts. The operations effectively ensured the power supply for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
