Implications of the World Commission on Dams' final report

A meeting at the Institution of Civil Engineers in London, UK on 1 February 2001 will look at the role of the World Commission on Dams’ final report in the future development of dams, both internationally and from a UK perspective.

Speakers will examine the needs for future dam development and how the WCD guidelines might be applied to fulfil needs for food, energy, water supply, flood control, flood mitigation and the environment. There will be brief presentations to encourage informed and inclusive discussion from delegates with an interest in all aspects of water and energy development.

Speakers will include Professor George Fleming, past president of the Institution of Civil Engineers; Achim Steiner, secretary general of WCD; Geoff Sims, vice president of icold, James Martin, past president of the British Dam Society and Ger Bergkamp from the International Conservation Union.

The meeting is free of charge and will be held from 10am-5pm at 1 Great George Street, London SW1. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
