India helps fund Congo hydro project

The Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) has approved US$82 million in financing to help complete the Katende hydroelectric project in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The funding is the second line of credit approved by the bank for the Katende project - in July 2011 it approved US$168 million for work on the hydroelectric scheme. Four years ago the bank also approved US$42 million for the Kakobola project in the country.

The 64MW Katende project is located in the province of Western Kasaï. It include four 16MW Kaplan turbines.
