10 September 1998

A large number of international and local firms are bidding for a contract to supervise work on Jordan’s Southern Ghors integrated project, embracing the construction of Mujib, Tannur and Wala dams and a diversion weir at Mujib.

Tenders for construction of the dams were issued on 1 July, with offers to be submitted by 1 October. Designs for the scheme have been completed by a joint venture of Brown & Root of the US with the local Masar Engineering. The project is being part-financed with a US$113M loan from the Kuwait-based Arab Fund for Economic and Social development (AFESD).

Bids for supervision work have been submitted by, among others, lahmeyer of Germany, with ace Engineering and Egypt’s Harza Associates; and Local Consulting Engineering Centre (Sajdi & Partners) with the UK’s Mott MacDonald.
