Isimba close to commissioning in Uganda

16 January 2019

The 183MW Isimba hydropower project in Uganda is set to be commissioned by the end of this month, local media has reported.

A representative of developer Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) told the Daily Monitor that the project’s four Kaplan turbines were up and running, and that they were waiting on an official response from the country’s president to confirm a commissioning date.

Commercial production was likely to start in March, the newspaper said.

Located on the Nile River, Isimba hydropower comprises a concrete gravity dam, a clay-core rockfill dam, spillway, powerhouse, switching stations and auxiliary power transmission works.
