Joint venture reaches end of first year

The voith-siemens Hydro Power Generation joint venture is celebrating its first anniversary. During the last 12 months the company has claimed a market share of 20% for new hydro equipment.One of the high points of the year for the new venture was receiving a major supply share for two additional units at the Itaipu project in Brazil, the largest hydro plant in the world. The company also won awards for the excitation equipment for the Three Gorges dam project in China; pumps/turbines and motor generators for Portugal’s Venda Nova pumped storage project; pumps for the Portuguese irrigation project Alamos; and Pelton turbines for Norway’s Bjoelvo station.

Previously separate contracts for electrical and mechanical equipment were merged under the new company for China’s Guangzou pumped storage stations. The equipment was put into operation in 2000.
