Marubeni building small hydro in Fukushima, Japan

Marubeni Corporation, in conjunction with subsidiary company Mibugawa Power Company, has begun construction of a 175kW hydropower plant in Shimogo Town, Minami Aizu County, Fukushima.

The plant, which is expected to start commercial operation in April 2015, is being built on both private and public land, and will utilize the water of the Osawa River.

This is the eighth small hydropower scheme developed by Marubeni, with the company stating it has plans to develop a further 30 schemes - both small and medium - by 2020.
