Mini hydro set up in China

12 January 1998

Professor Dong Jinsheng, Director-General, Department of Science and Technology, told members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in India, that Chinese investors are seeking joint venture partners for setting up mini hydro projects ranging from between 0.5-10MW capacity in India.

The joint venture partnerships would offer to their Indian counterparts technology transfer for mini hydro plants and equity participation in the installation of power machinery. It was pointed out that these power plants can be set up within one to two years following the receipt of required clearances. Dong Jinsheng said the mini hydro units were ideal for the rural and hilly regions of India. Jinsheng said that state governments of the northern region can explore this potential to meet the peaking shortage.
